Cancer Research: How Cancer Cell Spread to Other Cell?

Cancer Research is Essential

Cancer research is the study of abnormal cells. As i have been stated in Cytogenetics and Cancer Research, the malignant cancer cells will harm to our body and invade to other adjacent cells. The scientists do the cancer research to find out how the malignant cells harm us. All cells in our body replicate themselves including the malignant cells. This usually undergoes about 50 times before the cell dies. The difference between the normal cells and malignant cells is the malignant cells grow in an irregular pattern. In cancer research, we discover that these malignant cells can infiltrate to the surrounding tissue through the lymphatics and blood vessels. After infiltrating into these vessels, the malignant cancer cells can be carried to other sites throughout our body, where they will replicate and grow. We called this as metastatic spread.

Cancer Cells Can Spread in 2 Ways

1) Lymphatic Spread

After the malignant cancer cells enter the lymphatic system, they will travel along the lymphatic vessels to the lymph nodes. The malignant cancer cells can then stay in these nodes and replicate. Consequently, the lymph node will be replaced with a malignant tumour. What we know from cancer research are these malignant cancer cells will continuously to travel to the next group of lymph nodes via the lymphatic system, thereby spreading the malignancy throughout the body. Lymphomas and carcinoma of the head and neck are two examples of where cancer commonly spreads through lymphatic vessel.

2) Blood Spread

The vascular system of our body can be infiltrated by the malignant cancer cells too. The malignant cancer cells travel along the blood vessels until they reach a place that allows them to become lodged. Subsequently, they will replicate themselves to form a metastatic deposit. Then, the malignant cells will migrate again via the smaller blood vessels which are the capillaries. For example, melanoma and some small carcinoma cells of the lung are the malignant cells that related to blood spread. The most common region of malignant cancer cells for blood spread is the liver. Others common sites for this metastatic spread are breast, melanoma, lung and urological cancers. Sometimes, the malignant cancer cells can trigger an inflammatory response and consequently results in serious exudates.

Why the Malignant Cancer Cells spread according to Cancer Research?

According to cancer research, the malignant cancer cells replicate and spread to other adjacent cells in order to ensure themselves receive sustainance they need to live. This is the formation of new blood vessels called angiogenesis. Thus, even though some of the cancers can be treated after doing cancer research, we have to prevent from it! Leading a healthy life is the first criteria to get rid of cancer.

    Hi Carl2009,

Before i give any further information, may i know what kind of cancer the patient sufferred? You want to know the reason why the patient died with cancer, isn’t? I think you may take a look about some basic knowlegde about cancer in Cancer in our Body. Maybe you will find your answer there. Hope that i can help you more.

This article is presented in a very easy to read format. The diagram is clear and the content factual. Thank you ! I may be able to use this as a reference for patients who may be seeking to research and locate answers to their uncertainties.

  4. Kok Siong Chen says:

Yes, that is the purpose i start up this blog. I wish that i can use some simple words to let people know more about the cancer.

  5. Radon says:

Those two words again! Cancer and Research! Our scientists must be honored with funding to allow them to devote at must time necessary to find lasting solutions to this horrible disease. As we live longer, the chances of becoming ill with cancer increases. It is the disease of our time that must be eradicated. Soon!

  6. It is really essential. Cancer being one of the most dangerous disease the world encounter it really is important to conduct research.

I am glad they really are giving it time and trying their best to come up with new possibilities to prevent if not stop Cancer disease.

  7. Medchrome says:

    Also
Direct spread is common in cancer.
Sometimes Transcoelomic spread is also possible.

  8. Every time I read anything about cancer I wonder whether we may be making incorrect assumptions. What if what we are calling caner is how our bodies deal with toxins? I personally believe that we need to focus on improving our nutrition so that our body can shed toxins more effectively.

Treatments that are almost lethal when our bodies’ immune systems are already compromised make no sense to me. I know that my views are far from mainstream and I want to say that they are no those of Better Woman Now.

I took Bachelor of Science Genetics and Molecular Biology in University of Malaya before this. Genetics is my favourite subject since i was 16. I feel very curious on how the formation of a complex organism from a seeming formless zygote. How could a single cell gives rise to many kinds of different cells like muscle cells, brain cells and so on? Hope you all enjoy reading my blog. Thanks Read more »
