What is Cytogenetics?
What is Cytogenetics? Before you go any further into my Cytogenetics and Cancer Research blog, you must understand some basic of cytogenetics knowledge and the meaning of the terms that I used in my article. Below is the overview of .
Figure 1: Explanation of Cytogenetics
Simple to say, Cytogenetics is an area of biology concerned with the chromosomes and their implications in genetics.
What is Cell in Cytogenetics?
Cell is the fundamental unit of living organism. All part of our body is composed of cells. Inherited features and illness can be understood at the cellular levels. All cells share certain features, but they are also specialized because they express different subsets of genes. In Cytogenetics, what we concern is about the cell cycle. Cell cycle shows us how the cell is being produced and divided to form a new cell.

Figure 3: Gene to Chromosome
Genetics is the study of gene in our body. Gene is the functional unit of heredity which is passed down from our parents. The sequences of genes formed the DNA. DNA is the code information to produce the protein in our body. We called it chromosome when we grouped all DNA in a structure. And a complete set of chromosomes which inherited as a unit from our parents is called genome.

Until here, maybe you will feel bored to read on about Cytogenetics. But, it is really important for us to know about these. Do you know why your physical outlook is almost similar with your parents? Do you know how your grandfather’s boldness can be passed down to you? It’s all about Genetics! Have a look again how our body organised by these tiny informations. You will feel amazing to them!
